Late-night guide

Late-night food in the Jewish Quarter: a hungry visitor's guide.

Budapest's Jewish Quarter (District VII, Erzsébetváros) is where the city goes out at night. Here's a quick guide for when the hunger hits - from the pasta spot opening right in the middle of it.

The quarter after dark

The heart of the nightlife is a handful of streets: Kazinczy utca, home to Szimpla Kert, the best-known ruin bar; Gozsdu Courtyard, the long passage of bars and restaurants between Király utca and Dob utca; and Király utca itself. Wesselényi utca runs right through the quarter, a short walk from all of them.

Hot pasta until 11pm

Pasta Mio, at Wesselényi utca 21, plans to serve hot pasta in a takeaway box every day until 23:00 - quick enough to grab between two bars, filling enough to count as dinner. How our pasta to go works.

Getting home

The metro stops running late in the evening, after which night buses (marked with an É) take over. Tram 6 on the Grand Boulevard runs through the night - the nearest stops are Wesselényi utca / Erzsébet körút and Blaha Lujza tér.

A few tips for a good night

Keep it down in the residential courtyards - people live in the quarter too - and eat something before the second bar. Your future self will thank you.

Opening with free pasta

Pasta Mio opens with a Halloween special: free pasta, all day. Find out when.
